Life is hard in the country of Gorus. Once ravaged by an ancient war, Gorus’ future is dependent on its politics and the four families that rule them. Andrew is the firstborn of one such family. His future has been called. An heir of his country he has to follow the rules. He can never astray, and there are many rules an heir can break. Like falling in love with the son of your father’s rival.
* This story was written as a part of the M/M Romance Group’s Love Has No Boundaries event. Group members were asked to write a story prompt inspired by a photo of their choice. Authors of the group selected a photo and prompt that spoke to them and wrote a short story.
The Circle is the story of the forbidden friendship, later the even more forbidden blooming love of Andrew and Maxwell, sons of two political rivals, told from Andrew’s viewpoint.
It didn’t make sense when my father told me that was the feeling I was required to have about Maxwell. I had no reasons to hate him.
I was so tired of being my father’s son.
Slow-built, forbidden, heartbreaking.
Maxwell’s fingers inched towards mine until his pinkie looped around my own.
I could no longer call what we had a friendship. We had been falling in love all this time. Every smile, every brush, every word was just another form for me to sink deeper in.
I was so in love with him. I was in love with the only person I could never be with.
Teens with dreams and hopes.
Sometimes it sucked being able to dream.
Dystopian young adult MM romance.
Superficially depicted, but The Circle is the first one in The Heirs of Gorus series, but no following books yet. I hope there will be though; I’d love to read more about Andy and Maxwell.
Possible HEA in the future.
