The stories in Love is Always Write anthology celebrate love, sex and romance between men. They are a product of the Love Is Always Write promotion sponsored by the Goodreads M/M Romance Group and they are free.

The Goodreads M/M Romance Group invited members to choose a photo and pen a letter or story prompt asking for a short M/M romance story inspired by the image; authors from the group were encouraged to select a letter or story prompt and write an original tale.

My Review

I’ve read many free shorts written for promotions such as Don’t Read in the Closet, Love Has No Boundaries and Love Is Always Write, and though I found some gems, I seriously start to feel that authors don’t put enough effort into these stories.

I don’t think I have to, so I never rate them high just because they are free. Yes, they are free gifts for us readers, but also a (free) advertising possibility for them writers. If I read a brilliant story for free, I very possibly will seek out the other works of the author. That simple.

I read these collections because I want short and fun stories, and I hope to find new authors. So I think not putting enough effort into writing these novellas is a wasted possibility for both authors and readers.

Dear Author,
For three sleepless days, the lyrics have been pounding around in my head. Every time I close my eyes, this is the face that I see. The music is pouring from me, dragging me in its wake and I can almost believe he is real, his haunted eyes singing to me.

* This story was written as a part of the M/M Romance Group’s “Love Is Always Write” event. Group members were asked to write a story prompt inspired by a photo of their choice. Authors of the group selected a photo and prompt that spoke to them and wrote a short story.

My Review

A mysterious fantasy story about an elf living in the human world, but not knowing how he got there and who he is. In his dreams a song and a beautiful man is calling out to him. As his memories and abilities come back in fragments, we slowly learn what happened to him.

Faster and faster the incomprehensible sounds escape, more chant now than melody. A tightness forms in my chest, squeezing my heart and stealing my breath.
Words cannot describe what happened next, the tingling of heat and cold vying for dominance, a shimmering sensation, like mist rising from a lake. Somewhere, somehow a door opened, though not a door made of wood. The lover in my mind locks eyes with mine, and clearly, as though he stood before me, says, “I’m coming for you.”

Captivating atmosphere (has a little Lord of the Rings feel), lyrical writing style, mystery, nicely built plot and tension – all in 14 pages.

Wonderful story!

Luke Schumaker designs computer games, working from his home. Every day he walks his dog in the woods nearby, never suspecting that someone who is completely smitten is watching.

The watcher is Alex Shaw, and he too works from home, designing logic and crossword puzzles. Alex’s options are limited: he’s too shy to approach Luke and his wheelchair won’t let him follow into the woods. His solution? Secret messages for Luke in the crosswords he writes for the local paper.

When Luke decodes them, romance begins, but then they face greater puzzles, like Alex’s interfering sister and what commitment to a man in a wheelchair really takes. And, most puzzling of all, how do you know if love is real?

My Review

The Story
Perfect blurb – I’m not going to paraphrase it.

The Romance
Slowly and smartly built.

Characters
Cute nerds.

There was absolutely no doubt the message was for him. Who was doing this?
A slow grin spread over his face, and his gamer mind rubbed its hands together with villainous glee. Oh, this? This was excellent. He ripped off a piece of notepaper and started making a plan.

Writing Style
Entertaining.

Erotica
Playful and fun.

Luke yanked them down. What sprung up would have made a porn star weep with envy. It had to be at least nine inches, fully erect, and heavy as lead.
“Marry me,” Luke whispered in awe.
Alex half giggled, half panted. “Ass! Don’t just look at it. It’s been four years. Do something!”

Ending
HEA

Recommended?
Undoubtedly.
